Top 3 Leadership Styles in Business

Top 3 Leadership Styles in Business: Leadership and psychology are intertwined. Many people don’t realize it, but business leaders can be broken down into certain archetypes, that are supported by psychology.

All effective leaders fall into specific categories. If you want to optimize your leadership powers, you need to take a look at your business leadership skills and consolidate them. Finding out which archetype you fall into will help you realize which business leadership qualities you should capitalize on.

This article will walk you through five of the most effective leadership styles in business. Take note of which ones fit you, and consider doing my research into that archetype.

1. Democratic Leadership

A democratic government is one that’s run by the people, for the people. Democratic leaders take these principles and apply them to their business ideals.

Rather than making all of the decisions themselves, democratic leaders put the questions to the team. They believe that collaboration is the key to success. And a lot of the time, they’re right.

Democratic leaders operate on a sliding scale. They could put every matter up to a vote, and just act as a guide. Or, they could simply take into account everyone’s opinion before making a decision themself.

A great example of a democratic leadership style is the two guys who started Google.

2. Coaching Leadership

You can think of this leader as less of a traditional leader and more of a sports coach. The coaching leader works for his employees, making sure he understands all of their personal strengths and flaws. Then, he gives them the proper training and puts them into a position where they can succeed.

A successful person isn’t above getting their hands dirty and working for their employees. Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerburg are famous examples of coaching leaders.

3. Autocratic Leadership

The complete opposite of democratic leadership, autocrats take the “my way or the highway” approach. Autocratic leaders make all of their decisions themselves, and often have a cold, impersonal relationship to their employees.

As opposed to coaching leaders, autocratic leaders often micromanage each part of their workplace.

If this type of leadership is employed correctly, it can make production speed up, and leave competitors in the dust. If it goes wrong, employees can become demoralized. Jeff Bezos is a good example of someone who employs the autocratic leadership style.

Even as an autocratic leader, it’s extremely important to always be growing and always look for growth opportunities. Do as much research as you can in growing your business.
